Coronavirus In India: The death toll due to the novel coronavirus in the country rose to 1,583 with 194 fatalities reported since Monday evening, while the number of cases saw a big jump of 3,875 to go up to 46,711 cases on Tuesday, according to the Union health ministry. In what is being seen as a grim milestone, the ministry also released a data for cases and deaths from Monday 8 am to Tuesday 8 am. According to it, in this 24 hours period, India registered a record single day increase of 195 deaths and 3,900 cases, taking the total number of COVID-19 deaths to 1,568 and cases to 46,433. The number of active COVID-19 cases stood at 31,967 while 13,160 people have recovered and one patient has migrated, according to the ministry's updated data on Tuesday evening. Out of 64 flights that will fly back stranded Indians from abroad, 11 from nine countries will land in Tamil Nadu. Passengers will be charged on repatriation flights. Approximately Rs 50,000 per passenger for London-Delhi flight, Rs 12,000 for Dhaka-Delhi flight and Rs 1 lakh for flights from US To India. Those arriving by repatriation flights to be screened, put under 14-day quarantine, said Aviation minister Hardeep Singh Puri. Petrol prices have been hiked by Rs 1.67 per litre, diesel by Rs 7.10 a litre in Delhi after state govt raises VAT on auto fuel. After witnessing chaos in Delhi and other states, Chhattisgarh government has started home delivery of liquor in green zones in the state. A customer can place an online order for up to 5000ml liquor at a time, with delivery charges of Rs 120. Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh have hiked liquor prices by over 70% like Delhi. Coronavirus In India: As per the latest update from the health ministry, 3,900 new COVID-19 cases, 195 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours in India; the recovery rate is 27.41 per cent and 1,020 cases have recovered. The total number of positive COVID-19 cases stands at 46,433.

In India Maharashtra (14,541) has reported the highest number of Coronavirus COVID-19 cases, followed by Gujarat (5,804), Delhi (4,898), Tamil Nadu (3,550), Rajasthan (3,061), Madhya Pradesh (2,942), Uttar Pradesh (2,766), 1,085 in Telangana, 726 in Jammu and Kashmir, 651 in Karnataka, 528 in Bihar and 517 in Haryana. The number of confirmed cases has gone up to 1,650 in Andhra Pradesh and 1,259 in West Bengal.

A day after liquor shops were opened across country on Monday, triggering crowd gathering and choas at the vents, Delhi government will charge 70% of the maximum retail price (will be levied) on all categories of liquor sold through retail licensees for consumption. On Monday, people were seen flocking to wines shops in large numbers and making long queues outside the liquor shops as the retail of wine has been permitted by the government in several states, as a part of relaxations in Lockodwn 3.0.

Three more zones in Delhi were de-contained, with this the total number of containment zones in the national capital now stands at 90. In and around area of 11/3, 2nd Floor Ashok Nagar, A 36/4, East Patel Nagar and G-174 and Capital Greens, DLF, Moti Nagar were removed from the list yesterday.

The third phase of its nationwide lockdown which has been furthered by 13 days started on Monday and will continue till May 17 with some relaxations. India prepared for the third phase of the national lockdown from Monday with 'considerable relaxations' in several districts but curbs will continue in containment areas.


In Mumbai, as per police order, section 144 will be imposed in the city between 8 pm and 7 am. Starting today, stand-alone shops will issue tokens for customers to avoid crowding at shop counters.

Haryana imposes coronavirus cess on liquor

Liquor will be costlier in Haryana too as the state Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, on Tuesday decided to impose a Covid-19 cess on all brands, including country made.

The Cabinet approved certain changes in the excise policy for 2020-21. That were necessitated due to outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic, an official statement said.

Maharashtra recorded 34 new Covid-19 deaths - the third highest toll after 36 on May 2 - and positive cases continued to rise, crossing the 15,000 mark, and forcing the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to shut down all liquor shops, health officials said here on Tuesday.

BREAKINIG | Telangana CM K. Chandrashekar Rao on Tuesday announed extension of lockdown in the state till May 29. "Public should complete purchase of essential items by 6 pm and they should reach their residences. There will be curfew in the state from 7 pm. If anyone is found outside, police will initiate action," KCR said while speaking to media.
