Congress Takes 'Triple Jhatka' Jab Over PM Modi, Trump Call; BJP Says ‘Peddling Fake Narratives’

A political clash erupted between Congress and BJP after PM Modi discussed the ceasefire with Pakistan in a call with Donald Trump.

The phone call between PM Modi and US President Donald Trump, in which the former shared details about the ceasefire with Pakistan, has become the new point of political tussle between the Congress and the ruling BJP. While Congress has criticised PM Modi and said that India has faced a ‘triple jhatka’ in foreign policy and diplomacy, BJP has lashed out at the Grand Old Party for 'peddling fake narratives'.

The big ‘jhatka’, Congress said, was that it took place as the Pakistan Army chief, General Asim Munir, is expected to have lunch with the US president in the White House today.

"Asim Munir, the man whose inflammatory, incendiary, and provocative remarks were linked directly to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attacks, is having lunch with President Trump in the White House."

"Is this why President Trump abandoned the G7 Summit a day early..." Congress leader Jairam Ramesh asked on X.

Ramesh also pointed to the recent remarks made by General Michael Kurilla, head of the US Central Command, who referred to Pakistan as a “phenomenal partner” in counterterrorism. He said that it contrasts with India’s view of Pakistan.

"Second, General Michael Kurilla, who is the head of the US Central Command, says that Pakistan is a phenomenal partner in counter-terrorism. We are saying Pakistan is a phenomenal perpetrator...Third, from May 10 onwards, 14 times President Trump has been claiming that he mediated a ceasefire (between India and Pakistan), he used trade as an instrument, he put Pakistan and India together", he added.

He also reiterated the demand by the opposition for a special Parliament session. He said that the prime minister should make the same statements in Parliament that were shared in the official readout of the 35-minute phone call with Trump by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.

Reacting to the comments, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that these statements are coming from a political party whose lies are exposed daily and added that the Prime Minister was to meet President Trump, but he had to return early, after which he had a 35-minute telephone conversation.

“This makes it clear that after April 22, we said that those who are perpetrators of this terror attack will not go unpunished. By launching Operation Sindoor, their terrorist hideouts were destroyed and after that, their (Pakistan) DGMO called and asked for the cessation of hostilities. This is bilateral, these things have become clear... Their (Congress) leader showed the January 2025 readout on this …,” Puri said.

'Jairam Ramesh has long been known for peddling fake narratives — even many within his own party have admitted it openly. But this time, he has been caught with his hand in the till!,' BJP leader Amit Malviya posted on X.
