Cyclonic Storm Approaching Assam, Meghalaya And Arunachal; IMD Issues Alert. Check Details

Assam Weather News: A major weather change is expected in February, with cyclone conditions developing in several northeastern states. The IMD predicts heavy rainfall in these areas.

Northeast Weather Update Today: The winter chill in North and Northeast India is slowly dissipating right at the onset of February. The chill in the air is now being felt only in the morning and evening. The Meteorological Department has forecast that February will remain mostly dry in many states. However, the Northeast could see some cyclonic activity.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cyclone alert for several states in the Northeast. A cyclonic circulation has been seen forming over Assam and Bangladesh, due to which there is a possibility of thunderstorms and lightning in the northeastern states.

The IMD has forecast heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning in Meghalaya, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh. Strong winds are also likely to blow here on February 6 and 7. Light to moderate rain is possible in these areas between February 8 and 11.

A bulletin from the IMD read: "Light rain is very likely to occur at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh and Dry weather likely to prevail over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura. Shallow to moderate fog is very likely to occur in isolated pockets over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura."

"Light snowfall is very likely to occur at isolated pockets in higher reaches of Arunachal Pradesh. No large change in minimum temperature is very likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura," it added.

Yellow Alert For Thunderstorms And Lightning 

A yellow alert has been issued for thunderstorms and lightning in several areas of Himachal Pradesh. Several tourist regions, such as Shimla, Kullu, and Lahaul & Spiti, have also received heavy snowfall. In addition, the IMD issued a warning for dense fog in some parts on Thursday, February 6.

A new Western Disturbance is likely to affect northwest India on Saturday, February 8.

IMD Issues Fog Alert In Delhi, UP

While the weather in the national capital Delhi remains dry, rain has occurred in some areas bordering Delhi in the last 24 hours. Rain in several districts of Uttar Pradesh is also likely to bring down the temperature and induce fog.

Rain is likely in parts of UP in the next 24 hours. Meanwhile, the chill has increased in some districts of Bihar due to rain. The IMD has also issued a heavy fog alert in several areas of the state. 

Rain was expected in the national capital Delhi on February 3 and 4 due to the effect of the fresh Western Disturbance although light drizzle occurred in some areas. The weather is expected to be mostly pleasant till the weekend.
