26/11 Accused Tahawwur Rana Remanded To Judicial Custody Till June 6

Tahawwur Rana, the alleged mastermind and accused in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, was introduced before the Patiala House Court on Friday.

The judicial custody of Tahawwur Rana, the mastermind of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, was extended till June 6 on Friday. Rana was presented before the Patiala House Court earlier today.

Rana, who was recently extradited to India from the United States, was remanded to judicial custody by the court until June 6, 2025, according to a report by ANI.

Previously, on Saturday, May 3, NIA collected voice and handwriting samples from Tahawwur Rana. He was presented before Judicial Magistrate First Class Vaibhav Kumar under tight security, where he was provided handwriting specimens by writing multiple alphabets and numerical characters.

Legal aid counsel Advocate Piyush Sachdev confirmed that Tahawwur Rana has fully complied with a court directive requiring him to provide voice and handwriting samples.

The Special NIA Court, led by Judge Chander Jit Singh, recently approved a request by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to collect these samples from Rana, who is accused of playing a key role in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.

Canadian Businessman Of Pakistani Descent Extradited From US

Earlier this week, the same court had extended Rana’s NIA custody by 12 days, allowing the agency more time for interrogation. During the proceedings, the NIA informed the court that Rana had been presented with extensive documents and evidence connected to the attacks, justifying the need for extended custody.

Rana, a 64-year-old Canadian businessman of Pakistani descent, was extradited from the United States earlier this month due to his alleged involvement in the 26/11 attacks, which killed over 170 people and injured hundreds. He has since remained in the NIA’s custody in New Delhi as investigators continue to examine his suspected ties to the attackers, who were affiliated with the Pakistan-based terrorist organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba.

His extradition marks a significant step in India’s ongoing pursuit of justice for the victims of the 2008 attacks.
