Six people, including two children, were killed after a container truck toppled and crushed an SUV near Nelamangala on Saturday. The accident occurred at 11 AM when then container truck was traveling towards Tumakuru from Bengaluru.
The mishap led to a chaos and caused a traffic jam stretching over 3 km on National Highway 4. According to preliminary investigations by the police, the family in the SUV was heading out of the city for a weekend trip.
Bengaluru Rural SP CK Baba said, "Six people died in a major road accident after a container fell on a car and a two-wheeler at the national highway near T Begur of Nelamangala."

The mishap took place when the container truck moving parallel to the SUV collided with another truck belonging to Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF). The KMF truck was carrying Nandini dairy products. The impact caused both the container truck and the milk truck to topple. Following this, the container truck landed on the SUV.
The identities of the deceased are yet to be confirmed by the police. Authorities are working to clear the debris and restore normal traffic flow on the highway.
The family of four were traveling in an SUV with a registration number KA-01-ND-1536. They have also purchased the Volvo XC90 B5 Mild Hybrid Ultra SUV in October this year.
The family was residents of Vijayapura. Currently, the police have kept the bodies in Nelamangala government hospital mortuary for autopsy. Further investigations are underway to find the exact cause of the accident.
