Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman will deliver her fourth budget speech after she tables the Union Budget in Parliament. This year's Union Budget comes at a time when the country is battling a third wave of coronavirus disease (Covid-19), and all citizens of the country will look forward to the same.

The Budget session began on January 31 with President Ram Nath Kovind addressing both Houses of Parliament. Following that, Sitharaman tabled the economic survey. Presented every year prior to the Budget session, the survey focuses on the economy of the country in the last year, the primary challenges it is likely to face, and their probable solutions.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said India is fighting the new wave of COVID with "great success" and asserted that the people's trust on indigenous vaccines was "our strength".

In his monthly 'Mann Ki Baat' radio broadcast, Modi said, "Now the cases of corona infection have also started decreasing, this is a very positive sign."

It is a matter of pride that till now about four-and-a-half crore children have been administered the first dose of coronavirus vaccine, he said.

"This means that about 60 per cent of youth in the age group of 15 to 18 years have got their vaccines within three to four weeks. This will not only protect our youth but will also help them to continue with their studies," he said.

Another good thing is that within 20 days, one crore people have taken the precaution dose as well, Modi said.

The national capital Delhi on Sunday logged 3,674 cases with a positivity rate of 6.37 per cent and 30 additional fatalities, according to data released by the city's health department.

The number of cases in the national capital has risen to 18,27,489, with a death toll of 25,827.

After reaching a new high of 28,867 on January 13, the number of daily cases in Delhi has started declining. On January 14, the city reported a positive rate of 30.6 per cent, the highest during the pandemic's current wave.

It only took ten days for daily instances to fall below 10,000.

Meanwhile, Mumbai recorded 1,160 new coronavirus positive cases on Sunday, bringing the total to 10,45,630, with the death of 10 such patients bringing the total to 16,612, according to the civic authority.

During the day after recovery, a total of 2,530 patients were discharged. The health department of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation stated in a statement that 10,15,451 individuals had recovered from the virus in the city so far.

In the city, there are 10,797 current COVID-19 cases.

On Sunday, 46,307 tests were done, bringing the total number of tests to 1,52,43,823.

One hundred and nine of the 1,160 new cases are asymptomatic, while 160 require hospitalisation. 29 of them are on life support. Only 2,268 of the 37,573 beds are occupied. The case doubling rate in Mumbai is 375 days, and the recovery rate is 97 per cent.

IS Chahal, Mumbai's civic commissioner, said the city's positivity rate had dropped to 2.5 per cent.

Notably, Kerala continued to report over 50,000 daily COVID cases with the state logging 51,570 fresh infections taking the tally to 59,83,515 on Sunday.

The southern state also reported 14 COVID-related fatalities over the last 24 hours, taking the toll to 53,666, according to the state health bulletin.

Among the districts, Ernakulam topped the COVID chart with 9,704 cases, followed by Thrissur with 7,289 and Thiruvananthapuram with 5,746 cases.

"Currently, there are 3,54,595 active COVID-19 cases in the state out of which only 3.4 per cent are admitted to hospitals," the health department said in a release, as quoted by news agency PTI.

Meanwhile, 32,701 patients recuperated from the disease on Sunday taking the total number of recoveries in the state to 55,74,535.
