Allahabad (Uttar Pradesh) [India], Dec 18 (ANI): In a bid to give momentum to the ongoing Swachh Bharat Abhiyan or nationwide cleanliness drive, dustbins have now been installed inside state roadway buses here, to ensure proper waste disposal.

Improper waste management has been an issue debated time and again. The state authorities have asked for dustbins to be installed on all buses. This move has been proposed to ensure cleanliness on the bus, and also to prevent the public from throwing any kind of waste on roads.

Along with ensuring cleanliness, the authorities also aim to spread awareness regarding waste disposal.

The move has been well received by passengers, who had earlier complained of not having a proper way of disposing waste. With dustbins in place, passengers now have a systematic solution of disposing unnecessary material.

Both the authorities and passengers opined that the scheme aimed at cleanliness can only be successful if the public also cooperates.

"Dustbins have been installed in all buses for the convenience of passengers so that they throw off the wrappers and packages of whatever edibles they are having. We hope they cooperate and assist us in maintaining cleanliness," Madhuri Tiwari, in-charge at Civil Lines bus station told ANI.

Meanwhile, a passenger, while lauding the initiative, agreed that it required public cooperation as well.

"Unless the people cooperate, cleanliness cannot be achieved. Prime Minister Modi is initiating good initiatives and it will lead to our development, but we also need to assist authorities", Devanshu Dubey said.

"I was delighted to find dustbins as now we all have the opportunity to contribute to the Swachchh Bhaarat Abhiyan. When I saw garbage littered in the bus, I collected all of it and threw them in the dustbin," Rajat Tiwari, another passenger said. (ANI)
