Vitamin D plays a crucial role in making children's bodies healthy and strong.  From birth, children need a certain amount of Vitamin D daily.

This is why Doctors ask parents to expose their newborns to sunlight for 15 minutes every day. Vitamin D is also essential for the absorption of other Vitamins by the body.

Vitamin D deficiency prevents the body from absorbing calcium properly which further obstructs the proper formation of bones in children. A number of symptoms could indicate a deficiency of Vitamin D in children. The deficiency of Vitamin D in children could trigger diseases like Anaemia. 

Symptoms of Vitamin D Deficiency in children:

1. Deficiency of Vitamin D in children causes slight hunching. This can be visible in their spinal cord.  
2. Vitamin D deficiency also affects bone development in children.
3. If the child is having difficulty walking, it may indicate Vitamin D deficiency. 
4. Vitamin D deficiency in the body may cause weight loss in babies as well as prevent them from gaining weight. 
If you see any of these symptoms in your children, you should consult a doctor at the earliest.

Health concerns caused by Vitamin D deficiency:

1. Impact on Brain: Apart from inhibiting proper bone development, Vitamin D deficiency may also impact mental growth in children. Vitamin D helps make chemicals like serotonin and dopamine in the brain. Therefore, it is necessary to have an adequate intake of Vitamin D for healthy brain development.

2. Risk of Anemia: Vitamin D deficiency can prove to be dangerous for children. If a child faces Vitamin D deficiency for long, it may increase the risk of naemia. If the level of Vitamin D in your body falls below 30 nanograms per milliliter, it can lead to a number of health concerns.  

3. Weakened Immunity: Lack of vitamin D in the body increases the risk of irritability, frequent illnesses, and infections in children. The deficiency of Vitamin D compromises immunity, which makes children fall ill frequently.

4. Risk of Rickets: Vitamin D deficiency increases the risk of Rickets in children. Vitamin D helps the body absorb Calcium, which makes bones strong.  

5. Fractures: Vitamin D deficiency in children may cause weakened bones which can increase the possibility of fracture.  

Natural ways to boost Vitamin D intake:

Besides exposure to some sunlight, you can try these methods of boosting Vitamin D intake:
1. It is recommended to feed the children at least one glass of cow milk daily. Apart from this, you should also include curd in the child's diet.  
2. Feed children foods like Bread, Cereals, Milk, Cheese, Paneer, Soy Milk, and Orange Juice.
3. Include foods rich in Vitamin D like Eggs, Mushrooms, and Fish in the child's diet.
