COVID Cases Continue To Surge As India Records 2,527 New Infections, Check Recoveries & Deaths

Amid the surge in COVID-19 cases, Delhi clocked 1,042 fresh cases on Friday, taking the cumulative count to 18,72,699.

New Delhi: India on Saturday reported 2,527 new coronavirus infections, 1,656 recoveries, and 33 deaths in 24 hours.

According to the Union health ministry data, India's infection tally rose to 4,30,54,952, while the active cases have risen to 15,079.

 On Friday, India reported 2,451 new COVID infections and 54 deaths.

The ministry data updated at 8 am showed that the total recoveries were at 4,25,17,724 , while the death toll climbed to 5,22,149.

The active cases comprise 0.04 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate remained at 98.75 per cent.

The country's daily COVID positivity rate was reported to be at 0.56 per cent and the weekly positivity rate at 0.50 per cent.

187.46 crore vaccine doses have been administered so far under the Nationwide Vaccination Drive.

Mask Mandate Returns To Delhi

The Delhi government on Friday made masks mandatory in public places with immediate effect within three weeks of lifting its mask mandate,

The government imposed a fine of Rs 500 for any violation as coronavirus cases rise in the city again.

Those travelling together in a private four-wheeler are exempted from the new rule, according to an order issued by the city's Health and Family Welfare Department.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) stated that flying squads will be deployed to ensure that the COVID safety protocol including the mask mandate is adhered to by passengers inside trains and premises.

Amid the surge in COVID-19 cases, Delhi clocked 1,042 fresh cases on Friday, taking the cumulative count to 18,72,699. Two persons succumbed to the infection taking the toll to 26,164.

With the national capital witnessing a spike in cases, the number of active cases rose to 3,253 from 601 on April 11.

Notably, the hospitalisation rate has been low so far with less than three per cent of the total active cases in hospitals.

At present, there are 58 patients admitted to hospitals in Delhi while 2,173 are recuperating in home isolation.
