Ahead Of 'Bigg Boss 19' Premiere, Showrunner Recalls Chilling Incident Of A Contestant: 'She Tried To Commit Suicide'

The Project Head at Endemol Shine India disclosed a deeply disturbing incident from a regional language version of 'Bigg Boss', where a contestant threatened to take her own life.

As anticipation builds for 'Bigg Boss 19', the man steering the franchise from behind the scenes, Abhishek Mukherjee, has opened up about some of the toughest moments he’s encountered in his 17-year-long journey with the reality TV show. With the new season expected to hit screens in August, Abhishek Mukherjee reflected on a harrowing incident involving a contestant from one of the regional versions of Bigg Boss, who once threatened to take her life.

In a candid conversation on Vijay Vikram Singh’s podcast, Abhishek Mukherjee, who serves as the Project Head at Endemol Shine India, shared that while the Hindi editions of the show have seen their share of dramatic moments, the situation that shook him the most unfolded on a regional set in Lonavala.

When A Bigg Boss Contestant Attempted Suicide

Abhishek Mukherjee revealed that a well-known actress entered the show shortly after a difficult breakup, and inside the Bigg Boss house, she got involved with another contestant.

“In one of the regional languages, one popular actress had a breakup outside, and that’s why she entered the show. It was a bad breakup, and soon she fell in love with someone in the house. However, that guy cheated on her during the show. When she found out, one of the nights in Lonavala at around 3 am, she tried to commit suicide. She had forgotten that she was on the show,” the product head recounted.

The incident happened around 3 am, and the production team immediately rushed to the set. “Luckily, we have a psychiatrist on board always, and he is available on call 24x7, so he was called. But we had to buy time till the psychiatrist reached Lonavala from Mumbai, so we kept talking to the girl from 3:30 to 6:45 am,” Mukherjee added.

Eventually, the contestant was medically evicted from the house and did not return to the show.

Meanwhile, 'Bigg Boss 19' is expected to start streaming in August 2025.
