Pakistani actor Fawad Khan's upcoming film Abir Gulal, set to release on May 9, has sparked controversy as Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has strongly opposed its screening in India.
Ameya Khopkar, a senior leader of MNS, took to social media to reaffirm the party’s stance against Pakistani artists working in India.
In his post, he stated, "Despite repeatedly making it clear that Pakistani artists' films will not be allowed to release in India, some still try to push their agenda. It is up to MNS workers to throw them in the trash, and we will continue to do so. ‘Abir Gulal’ will not be allowed to release in India—this is final. Those who want to support Pakistani artists are free to do so, but remember, they will have to face us."
MNS has historically opposed Pakistani actors and artists working in the Indian film industry, citing tensions between the two countries. The party has previously protested against films featuring Pakistani actors, including Fawad Khan's past projects.
As of now, the makers of Abir Gulal have not responded to MNS’s objections. It remains to be seen whether the film will face any hurdles in its scheduled release in India. The teaser of 'Abir Gulal' was released on Tuesday.

The film was shot in London, with production kicking off on September 29 last year. The production house, Indian Stories, had officially announced the project at the time.
Director Aarti S Bagdi had earlier shared insights into the storyline, describing it as an exploration of love and emotional healing. She stated, “The film explores the journey of two individuals who unintentionally help each other heal, with love blossoming as an unexpected consequence.” The shooting wrapped up in November, covering various picturesque locations in the UK.
