Kangana Ranaut starrer ‘Thalaivi’, which was slated to hit the silver screens on April 23, will not release on its scheduled date. The makers of the much-awaited film have decided to postpone the release keeping in mind the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the country.
"We are extremely grateful for the tremendous response and unconditional love you've shown for 'Thalaivi' trailer. As a team, we have sacrificed a lot in making this film and thank every member of the cast and crew who supported us in this challenging but remarkable journey. Since the film has been made in multiple languages, we would like to release it in all languages on the same day,” the makers said in a statement.
"But with an alarming rise in COVID-19 cases, subsequent precautions and lockdowns, even though our film is ready for release on Apruil 23, we want to xtend all the support towards the government rules and regulations and have decided to postpone the release of Thalaivi.Though we are deferring the release date, we are confident that we will receive as much love from you all then as well. Stay safe and looking forward to everyone's support," the statement read.
Kangana also shared the official statement along with the caption, "Theater business can only be revived if theatres open." The 'Panga' actress had earlier said that her upcoming film would revive the industry, which has been severely affected by the COVID-19 crisis.
Kangana will be playing the role of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa in 'Thalaivi'. The AL Vijay directorial also stars Arvind Swami, Prakash Raj, Bhagyashree in key roles.
Bollywood Films Which Have Been Delayed
Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Sooryavanshi’, which was scheduled to release on April 30, has also been postponed. The cop drama co-starring Katrina Kaif has been directed by Rohit Shetty.
Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerji’s ‘Bunty Aur Babli 2’ was supposed to clash with ‘Thalaivi’ at the box office. Last month, Yash Raj Films announced that the film won’t release on April 23 due to the COVID-19 crisis.
