Dhurandhar 2 Beats Baahubali 2’s India Collection, Ends 9-Year Box Office Reign Of Prabhas’ Film

Dhurandhar 2, also titled Dhurandhar: The Revenge, headlined by Ranveer Singh and directed by Aditya Dhar, has broken yet another record at the box office. The film has dethroned Baahubali 2: The Conclusion after nine years to become the second-highest-grossing film in the country. It now stands only behind Pushpa 2: The Rule, which collected Rs 1,234.10 crore at the Indian box office.

Given its current pace at the box office, the film is expected to soon become the highest-grossing film in India.

Dhurandhar 2 Box Office Collection Day 20

On Day 20, which is the third Tuesday, the film has collected Rs 10.10 crore at the box office so far, according to Sacnilk. Out of this, Rs 9.50 crore came from Hindi shows, while Rs 0.35 crore and Rs 0.15 crore were contributed by Telugu and Tamil shows, respectively. Kannada and Malayalam shows minted Rs 0.08 crore and Rs 0.02 crore respectively.

The film, a sequel to the 2025 film Dhurandhar, earned Rs 674.17 crore in its first week and Rs 263.65 crore in its second week. It is currently running in its third week, which will conclude this Wednesday.

The film’s worldwide collection stands at Rs 1,641.21 crore, of which the India gross is Rs 1,237.21 crore, while overseas earnings stand at Rs 404 crore.

Dhurandhar 2, officially Dhurandhar: The Revenge, has fallen victim to piracy after its release on March 19. Pirated versions of the film are circulating online across several platforms, including YouTube and X (formerly known as Twitter), where some users uploaded low-quality videos of Ranveer Singh’s film. Although the videos were quickly removed after fans alerted the film’s team, the circulation reportedly continued through other channels. The spy-action thriller was also being sold at extremely low prices on messaging platforms. Taking note of the issue, Maharashtra Cyber has registered an FIR against an unidentified individual.

Maharashtra Cyber Cracks Down On Telegram Groups

According to sources familiar with the development, the case has been registered under Section 51 of the Copyright Act. During the preliminary investigation, authorities found out that the film was being distributed through groups created on Telegram, where users could request and obtain the pirated version of the movie.

Officials from the cyber cell said the individuals operating these groups were charging money to share the film with users who were interested. In many cases, they reportedly charged up to Rs 50 per request.

Sources also revealed that each Telegram group typically had around 100 to 120 members. Many users would join the group solely to download the film and exit immediately after receiving it.

The police said they have so far deleted four to five links associated with the film that were being used to circulate pirated copies across different platforms. Yashasvi Yadav, the head of Maharashtra Cyber, confirmed that a case has been registered and that the investigation is ongoing.

Dhurandhar 2 is the sequel to Dhurandhar, which was released last year. The film received much love from the viewers and shattered a few records at the box office. The first instalment was released only in Hindi and is currently streaming on Netflix.

Addressing the claims head-on, Priyadarshan said, "Huge respect I have to him, he is one of the masters from whom I learnt cinema. Second, the word you are saying is Bhoot. Now, if I ask you, in how many songs the word ‘Deewana’ used in Indian cinema? That means that only the first person, who used the word ‘deewana’ has the right to use it. It's only a word. We can't use, if somebody uses two lines, everybody can use, but the tune has nothing to do with the song."

His remarks underline a key distinction between lyrical coincidence and musical composition, suggesting that repetition of common words or phrases does not necessarily amount to plagiarism.

‘There Is Nothing Wrong’

Backing his stance further, the director emphasised that the song’s lyrics were independently written and contextually relevant to the film.

He added, "The lyricist has written those lines, and that is why we were so confident there is nothing wrong in it, and there’s a context to it because the film is ‘Bhooth Bangla’, and you should also understand there is a previous film called ‘Bhoot Bangla’ as well. Naturally, that title is repeated now. So these things get repeated; there is nothing. I respect Satyajit Ray like the god of Indian cinema."

His defence points to the broader nature of creative repetition in cinema, where themes, words, and even titles often reappear across generations.

It further added, “Dhurandhar: The Revenge performing exceptionally well is heartening news for our film industry, and the exhibitors feel that this shift will allow both films the space, focus and attention they deserve.”

Sarke Chunar Row: Director, Singer Submit Written Apology To NCW Over Nora Fatehi–Sanjay Dutt Song

Sarke Chunar Row: Kannada filmmaker Prem and lyricist Raqueeb Alam have submitted a written apology to the National Commission for Women (NCW) over the controversial song “Sarke Chunar,” which was picturised on Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt. The apology was submitted during a hearing in the suo motu case taken up by the Commission, chaired by NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar.

In a press release, the NCW said Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar raised concerns over the lyrics of the song, stating that they undermine the dignity of women. She also rejected the defence put forward by those involved that they were unaware of the meaning of the lyrics.

“The Chairperson rejected the argument put forward by the accused that they were unaware of the meaning of the lyrics. She clearly stated that harming the dignity of women cannot be justified in the name of creativity,” NCW said in a press release.

The Commission further stated that those present during the hearing apologised in writing and assured that such an incident would not be repeated in the future. They also acknowledged that the song may have had a negative impact on society.

According to the NCW, the individuals present at the hearing also committed to working towards women’s empowerment over the next three months and agreed to submit a report detailing their efforts to the Commission.

Pakistani film distributor Nadeem Mandviwalla has revealed that he has not yet watched Dhurandhar 2, originally Dhurandhar: The Revenge, starring Ranveer Singh, even though pirated copies of the film are already circulating widely in Pakistan.

‘Will Watch Dhurandhar 2 In Good Pirated Version’

Mandviwalla, in a recent interview with NDTV, said that while many people in the country have already seen the film through pirated versions due to the ban on the film owing to anti-Pakistan sentiments, he prefers to wait for a copy with better video quality.

“Many people in Pakistan have watched the film’s pirated version. I haven’t as yet, I prefer watching in good quality,” Mandviwalla told the outlet, before adding, “If I get a pirated version in good quality, I’ll watch it.”

Mandviwalla also noted that the popularity of the first instalment made it inevitable that audiences would be curious about the sequel as well.

“The first part was so successful that it is obvious that people will watch the second part too. There was unanimous praise for Dhurandhar part one when it was released in December, but there has been a mixed response to part two in Pakistan,” the outlet further quoted Mandviwalla as saying.

He further mentioned that, based on what he has heard, the second film appears to be less focused on portraying Pakistan negatively compared to expectations.

In the film, Nawaz Sharif’s character is portrayed by Mashhoor Amrohi, the grandson of noted filmmaker Kamal Amrohi.

Dhurandhar Lands In Pakistan’s Pirated Market

On March 19, the day the film was released, Khalid also posted a clip from Dhurandhar 2 on social media, mentioning that he was watching the Aditya Dhar-directed film in Lahore.

Both Dhurandhar and Dhurandhar 2 have reportedly entered Pakistan’s pirated film market and are being sold at extremely low prices.

The first film was reportedly available for as little as Rs 16. According to a report by news agency IANS, Dhurandhar became the most pirated film in Pakistan, recording more than two million illegal downloads within just two weeks of its release.
