The 97th Oscars nominations are being released on Friday evening, January 23, 2025. All hopes are high for India's celebrated feature film 'All We Imagine As Light', which won the Cannes Grand Prix in 2024. While 'All We Imagine As Light' was not India's official entry to the Oscars, tehre were hopes that the film would be picked by its strong backing by critics circles, and international acclaim. Stakes were high for the Payal Kapadia film to get a nomination after it was also listed in the Golden Globes, BAFTAs and the Critics Choice Awards.
However, the Payal Kapadia film failed to make it to the Best International Feature Film category.

In the Best feature film (international) category, 'Emilia Perez', 'I'm Still Here', 'The Girl With The Needle', 'The Seed of The Sacred Fig', and 'Flow' have made it to the list.

Meanwhile, Guneet Monga and Priyanka Chopra-backed 'Anuja' was produced in collaboration with the Salaam Baalak Trust( SBT), a non-profit founded by Mira Nair that supports street and working children, alongside Shine Global – known for Academy Award-winning films 'War/Dance' (2007), 'Inocente' (2012) – and Krushan Naik Films.
Hollywood actress Mindy Kaling is also one of the producers on the film. Oscar-winner Guneet Monga is also part of 'Anuja's team as producer.
'Anuja' could be Monga's third nomination at the Oscar. Her previous projects such as 'The Elephant Whisperers' and 'Period: End of Sentence', won Oscars, bring much-deserved attention to Indie-Indian cinema.
