New Delhi: Amidst the rising tensions between India and Pakistan as a result of the recent terror assault in Pahalgam and India's military reaction via Operation Sindoor, a comedy show provided an unexpected moment of humour. Currently on a US-Canada tour, well-known stand-up comedian Gaurav Gupta transformed a possibly awkward exchange into a hilarious, viral moment at one of his shows.
Last month, Gaurav Gupta started his North American tour. On Sunday, he posted a video from one of his recent performances that showed a scathing, humorous conversation with a Pakistani fan in the crowd. His official Instagram account included the footage, which went viral right away.
Gupta is seen slightly surprised in the video when he learns that one of the audience members is from Pakistan. The audience instantly reacts by yelling "Sindoor," in reference to the most recent Indian military action. Without skipping a beat, Gupta calls for composure: "Behave". He said, "Brother, you have a lot of guts coming to the show. He thought artists were banned, but audience members are still allowed.”
Gaurav Gupta's Viral Moment
Going one step further, Gaurav Gupta jokes, "Chalo tum Hanuman Chalisa padho ab (Go on, recite the Hanuman Chalisa now)"—a statement that draws loud applause and laughter from the audience.
As he continues, Gupta wonders whether the Pakistani fan gets his Hindi humour. "Toh tumhe samajh nahi aata, nahi milega tumhe? Itne saalon se keh rahe hain nahi milega, nahi milega, phir aa jaate ho tum," the comic says after the guy nods. The comment, which referenced the ongoing Kashmir crisis, is greeted with even more laughter and clapping.
Despite the serious political climate, several online commenters praised the encounter as an unusual example of humorous cross-border banter. Someone wrote, "He was hesitating while roasting him.. but he still did it gracefully," while another one called it "Epic".
