Preity Zinta’s performance as Naina Catherine Kapur in the 2003 classic Kal Ho Naa Ho remains one of the most beloved portrayals in Hindi cinema. Set in New York City, the film tells the emotional journey of Naina, an introverted Indian-American woman whose life changes after meeting her spirited neighbour Aman Mathur, played by Shah Rukh Khan.

The film’s heartbreaking climax, especially Aman’s death scene, continues to move audiences even today. Recently, Preity Zinta revealed that the scene still brings her to tears—though for reasons deeply personal to her.

When a fan asked Preity on X (formerly Twitter), “@realpreityzinta ma’am, every time I watch Kal Ho Naa Ho, I cry like a kid. You absolutely nailed Naina Catherine Kapur. Learnt a lesson as well that love sometimes means letting go,” the actress responded with a touching revelation.

She wrote, “Yes, I cry when I see it, and I cried when we were filming it too! My first love died in a car crash, so this film always hit different 💔. Fun Fact – Most scenes, all actors cried naturally…. And Aman’s death scene had everyone crying in front of the camera and behind it too!"

About Kal Ho Naa Ho

Directed by Nikkhil Advani and produced by Karan Johar, Kal Ho Naa Ho also starred Saif Ali Khan and remains a milestone in the careers of all three lead actors. The film was re-released in theatres last year, evoking waves of nostalgia among fans.

While its enduring popularity has sparked chatter about a potential sequel, director Nikkhil Advani recently clarified in a conversation with casting director Mukesh Chhabra that there are no plans for Kal Ho Naa Ho 2, adding that such a film “should not be made.”
