Patralekhaa Says She's Often Seen Only As Rajkummar Rao’s Wife: ‘Some Bring Me Scripts Just To Reach Him’

For Patralekhaa, the struggle is not just about finding good roles, but also about being seen as a serious artist in her own right.

Despite earning praise for her recent performance in 'Phule', actor Patralekhaa continues to face a deeply personal and professional struggle — carving out an identity in an industry that often sees her only through the lens of her husband’s fame.

In a heartfelt interview with 'Galatta India', the 'CityLights' star expressed her discontent with constantly being identified by her marital status. “I really hate it, just to be called Rajkummar Rao’s wife. I detest it, and I feel very small,” she admitted. She added in Hindi, “Kyunki mera ek naam hai… mera ek astitva hai.” (Because I have a name… I have an identity.)

While many presume her journey may have been made smoother due to her relationship with a widely admired actor like Rajkummar Rao, Patralekhaa pushed back against this assumption. “Kyunki aapko lagta hai meri zindagi aasaan ho sakti hai ki mere husband… ya mere tab ke boyfriend… itne famous thay. But it’s never easy if you are trying to establish yourself as an individual, to have your own career graph… it’s very difficult.”

For Patralekhaa, the struggle is not just about finding good roles, but also about being seen as a serious artist in her own right. She pointedly urged the media to stop defining her by her relationship, saying, “I’ll never be comfortable with it… I’ll fight it till the very end.”

She also shed light on another harsh reality she frequently faces in the industry — being used as a stepping stone to her husband. “Kabhi bhi log mere paas aate hai Raj tak pahuchne ke liye. Mere paas script lekar aate hai… not because they want me… but they want to cast him. Toh aapko samajh aata hai what’s the bait… ki aap Raj ke paas lekar jao… ye film aapki.” (People often approach me only to reach Raj. They bring me scripts not because they want me, but because they want to cast him. And then it becomes clear what the bait is — they want me to take it to Raj, and the film is mine.)

Despite these disheartening experiences, Patralekhaa remains firm in her principles. She revealed that she has always turned down offers that came with hidden agendas. “It’s below my dignity,” she said bluntly.
