Shanaya Kapoor is all set to step into Bollywood this year, marking the beginning of what promises to be an exciting journey in the film industry. The daughter of Sanjay Kapoor and Maheep Kapoor, Shanaya comes from a family deeply rooted in Indian cinema. Adding to her illustrious lineage, her late aunt, Sridevi, remains one of Bollywood’s most iconic actresses, remembered as the industry’s first female superstar.
In a recent interview, Maheep Kapoor shared heartfelt memories of Sridevi, revealing how the legendary actress played a nurturing role in Shanaya’s life. She recalled how it was Sridevi who got Shanaya’s ears pierced, as Maheep herself was too anxious to do it. “She was better at handling girls,” Maheep admitted.
Sridevi’s Special Bond with Shanaya Kapoor
During a conversation with Filmfare, Maheep Kapoor described Sridevi as “pure magic” and reminisced about her graceful presence during Karwa Chauth celebrations. Beyond being a superstar, Sridevi was a loving and caring figure in their family.
One such instance was when Shanaya wanted a mobile phone. Initially, Maheep was reluctant to give in, believing her daughter was too young. However, Sridevi stepped in and got Shanaya a phone, reasoning, "If Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor had phones, Shanaya should have one too."
Maheep also shared that whenever she and Sanjay Kapoor traveled, they would entrust their children to Sridevi’s care. She fondly remembered how Sridevi effortlessly managed the girls, while her son, Jahaan Kapoor, would often be a bundle of energy, running around her house—sometimes leaving the actress overwhelmed.
Sridevi’s Artistic Side and Her Connection with Sonam Kapoor
Apart from her cinematic brilliance, Sridevi was also an artist. One of her notable creations was a painting of Sonam Kapoor, which she gifted to the actress after the release of her debut film Saawariya (2007). Her artistic talents were yet another testament to her multifaceted personality.
Having starred in over 300 films across Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada industries, Sridevi left behind an unparalleled legacy. She was married to filmmaker Boney Kapoor and continues to be remembered as one of the finest actresses in Indian cinema.
