On Tuesday, members of the Kapoor family, including Bollywood stars Ranbir Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to extend an invitation for the upcoming Raj Kapoor Film Festival.  


The event is set to commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of the legendary actor-director Raj Kapoor, widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in Indian cinema.

Key members of the Kapoor clan, including Ranbir, Alia Bhatt, Neetu Singh, Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, Aadar Jain, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Karisma Kapoor, Aarman Jain, and his wife Anissa Malhotra, were present in the meeting. The family members expressed their hope that the Prime Minister would attend the festival, underscoring the significance of Raj Kapoor’s contributions to Indian cinema. 


About Raj Kapoor Film Festival


The Raj Kapoor Film Festival, organised in partnership with PVR INOX Limited and the Film Heritage Foundation, will take place from December 13 to 15, marking the centenary of the multifaceted artist’s birth. The festival will span 101 cinemas across 34 cities, making it one of the largest retrospectives ever held in honor of the iconic filmmaker. 


Audiences will be treated to a curated selection of Kapoor’s most celebrated films, including 'Awara' (1951), 'Shree 420' (1955), 'Sangam' (1964), and 'Mera Naam Joker' (1970), offering a rare chance to experience his timeless classics on the big screen. As part of the tribute, these films will be remastered for the festival, allowing both long-time fans and new viewers to enjoy the grandeur of his visionary filmmaking. 


Raj Kapoor, who was awarded the Padma Bhushan and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his contributions to Indian cinema, left behind a legacy that continues to inspire generations. The film festival promises to be a fitting tribute to his remarkable impact on the Indian film industry.
