India's Got Latent Controversy: Tanmay Bhat, Rakhi Sawant, Uorfi Javed, Siddhant Chaturvedi Summoned

The Maharashtra Cyber Police have issued summons to comedian Tanmay Bhatt, Rakhi Sawant, Uorfi Javed and several others in connection with an FIR linked to Ranveer Allahbadia’s controversial remark on ‘India’s Got Latent.’

The Maharashtra Cyber Police have reportedly issued summons to comedian Tanmay Bhat, actor Rakhi Sawant, internet personality Uorfi Javed, actor Siddhant Chaturvedi, social media figure Deepak Kalal, and several others in connection with an FIR linked to Ranveer Allahbadia’s controversial remark on Samay Raina’s show, ‘India’s Got Latent.’

Guests on India’s Got Latent

In total, 30 individuals—including artists, hosts, judges, participants, and organisers—have been booked for allegedly using foul and inappropriate language during the show. The FIR also references a controversial remark made by a contestant about people from Arunachal Pradesh eating dogs.

Among those who have featured on ‘India’s Got Latent’ are comedians Amit Tandon, Neeti Palta, Maheep Singh, Ashish Solanki, Vipul Goyal, Nishant Tanwar, Sonali Thakker, Bharti Singh, Haarsh Limbachiyaa, and model Poonam Pandey.

What Ranveer Allahbadia said and his apology

The controversy erupted following an episode where Allahbadia posed an inappropriate question to a contestant: “Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once to stop it forever?”

Ranveer attempted to calm the backlash by releasing a video apology, describing his remark as a "lapse in judgment," but the controversy continues to escalate. The matter even reached Parliament, where Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske called for legislation to regulate social media.

Legal repercussions

The FIR was filed suo moto by the cyber cell following widespread backlash over Allahbadia’s remarks, which sparked outrage online.

As part of its investigation, the Cyber Department has booked the case under relevant sections of the IT Act and has requested the removal of all the episodes of the comedy show from the platform.

According to the department, the inquiry revealed that multiple participants and individuals associated with the show, including judges and guests, were seen engaging in “vulgar and obscene” conversations.

Following Allahbadia’s controversial comments, several complaints were lodged in Mumbai demanding action against him and other well-known social media personalities linked to the show, including Apoorva Mukhija and comedian Samay Raina, over the alleged use of “abusive language.”

Among the featured guests in one of the episodes were content creators Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Mukhija, along with Allahbadia.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Police on Wednesday recorded the statements of four persons including social Apoorva Mukhija and Allahbadia's manager.
