YouTuber-turned-actor Apoorva Mukhija, popularly known as The Rebel Kid, is slowly rebuilding her career following the backlash from the India’s Got Latent controversy. However, despite making progress, there's one thing she’s not ready for just yet — walking the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival.

Apoorva Makhija to skip Cannes debut?

During an Instagram Q&A session on Monday, a social media user asked others which creator they’d like to see on the red carpet at the prestigious Cannes festival. One user mentioned Apoorva’s name. The actor noticed the comment and reposted it with a candid response, writing, “Gaali nahi khani (Don’t want to get abused).”

Reports had earlier suggested that Apoorva was expected to attend the Cannes Film Festival this year, but her response has now cast doubt on whether she has dropped her Cannes plans or was simply being tongue-in-cheek.

The 78th edition of the Cannes Film Festival is scheduled to be held from May 13 to May 24, 2025. This year, the organisers have barred outfits promoting "nudity" from the red carpet, citing "decency" concerns. Representing India at the global event will be renowned names like Alia Bhatt, Aishwarya Rai, Sharmila Tagore, Anupam Kher, and Ishaan Khatter.

Background on the India’s Got Latent controversy

Apoorva was one of the comedians who appeared in a controversial episode of India’s Got Latent in January, where YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia made polarising remarks about parents and sex. While Ranveer bore the brunt of the criticism, a clip featuring Apoorva also drew backlash on social media.

Following the outrage, comedian Samay Raina — the show’s creator — took down all the episodes. Several FIRs were filed against Samay, Ranveer, Apoorva, and others associated with the show for their statements.
