Asha Bhosle Is Alive and Well, Confirms Son Anand Bhosle After Viral Death Hoax

Legendary singer Asha Bhosle is alive and well, confirms her son Anand Bhosle, after a viral Facebook post falsely claimed she had passed away, sparking confusion and concern among fans online.

Legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle became the subject of an internet death hoax this week, sending shockwaves across social media. However, her son Anand Bhosle has stepped in to put all speculation to rest, clarifying that the 90-year-old music icon is absolutely fine.

Asha Bhosle's death rumour sparks panic

The rumour was triggered by a Facebook post from a user named Shabana Shaikh, who shared a garlanded photo of Asha Bhosle with the caption, "Famous singer Asha Bhosle passed away, a musical era ends (01 July 2025)." The post has since been deleted, but not before it caused confusion and concern among fans.

Speaking to the Times of India, Anand Bhosle rubbished the false reports. "It's untrue," he said, urging fans not to fall for baseless social media rumours.

Ash Bhosle was recently seen at Rekha’s Umrao Jaan event

The rumour stands in stark contrast to the singer’s recent public appearance. Just last month, Asha Bhosle attended the grand theatrical re-release of Umrao Jaan (1981), where she even took to the stage to sing the film’s timeless track Dil Cheez Kya Hai. The event also saw the presence of the film’s director Muzaffar Ali and its lead star Rekha, who joined Asha on stage, delighting fans with a rare reunion.

Asha on RD Burman and musical legacy

Asha Bhosle, who married legendary music composer R.D. Burman in 1980, recently opened up about her professional and personal relationship with him. In an interview with PTI, she recalled how he constantly encouraged her to experiment with her voice and style.

"His music was his inspiration. He used to do something new with it. He would tell me to do something different; like change my voice. And he has given me a lot of inspiration. I have learnt a lot from him. He used to help me with those songs," she said.

She also highlighted the enduring appeal of his compositions. "I had known him for many years. I had worked with him and sung many songs for him. I think I sang 840 songs for him. The songs that are 50 years old are still loved by people. Everyone tells me that they want new music. But people sing the same old songs, and the children sing the same old songs," she added.

Asha Bhosle: A living legend

With a career that spans over 80 years, Asha Bhosle remains one of the most revered voices in Indian music. She has recorded in numerous Indian languages and earned accolades throughout her career, including the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award and the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian honour, in 2008.
