The political spotlight remains on the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), India’s wealthiest civic body, boasting an annual budget of over ₹74,400 crore. In Mumbai, 1,700 candidates are contesting 227 seats after a four-year delay, turning the election into a high-stakes showdown. The BMC contest has sharpened into a prestige battle between the reunited Thackeray brothers and the BJP–Shiv Sena (Shinde) alliance, making it one of the most closely watched civic polls in the country. While the BJP did not secure a clean majority, it emerged as the clear frontrunner in the elections, reflecting its growing strength in urban Maharashtra.BMC In focusIn the state capital, voting was held across 227 wards, with 1,03,44,315 citizens eligible to vote in the BMC polls.
