In a heart-wrenching turn of events, a 15-year-old girl from Bayabar village in Odisha’s Puri district was airlifted to AIIMS Delhi on Sunday after sustaining life-threatening burn injuries in a suspected attack.
The teenager, who reportedly suffered 70–75% burns, had been battling for her life at AIIMS Bhubaneswar before being flown out in a fully equipped air ambulance outfitted with advanced life support systems. Authorities created a green corridor from the hospital to the Bhubaneswar airport to ensure her rapid and unhindered transfer.
According to hospital sources, the next 48 hours will be critical in determining her chances of survival. A dedicated team of medical officers accompanied her on the flight, while specialists at AIIMS Delhi are on standby to begin immediate treatment upon her arrival.

The horrific incident unfolded on Saturday morning in Bayabar village, located under the Balanga police jurisdiction in the Nimapara block. The girl was allegedly set on fire by three unidentified men in a brutal attack that has shocked the region. She was initially rushed to Pipili Hospital for first aid before being referred to AIIMS Bhubaneswar in a precarious condition, where doctors placed her on oxygen support.
Responding to the gravity of the situation, the Odisha government has announced that it will cover all medical expenses related to the girl's treatment. The decision to shift her to Delhi came amid growing political pressure, with opposition parties demanding better medical intervention and stronger action against the perpetrators.
The girl’s family was by her side at AIIMS Bhubaneswar during her transfer, clinging to hope as she began the next leg of her fight for survival.
Meanwhile, police have launched a full-scale investigation into the incident. Efforts are underway to identify and arrest the individuals responsible for the horrific crime, which has triggered outrage across the state.
