Law student and social media influencer Sharmistha Panoli was released from Alipore Jail on Friday after the Calcutta High Court granted her interim bail in a case involving hurting religious sentiments through her alleged communal remarks in a video on Operation Sindoor posted on social media post.

The Calcutta High Court on Thursday granted interim bail to Panoli, who was arrested last week by Kolkata Police following an FIR lodged at the Garden Reach Police Station. It was observed by the court that the complaint against Panoli did not disclose any cognisable offence. 

The 22-year-old law student, was arrested from Gurugram in Haryana after the FIR was registered against her.

The court directed that she be granted bail on a bond and a security of Rs 10,000. Panoli has been directed to not leave the country without prior permission from court. However, the trial court was allowed to consider her application if she seeks to go abroad for educational purposes.

She has also been instructed to cooperate with the investigation.
