Raja Raghuvanshi Murder: Sonam, Raj Kushwaha Sent To 13-Day Judicial Custody By Shillong Court

Sonam Raghuvanshi and her alleged boyfriend Raj Kushwaha are two prime accused in the murder of Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi in Meghalaya.

A Shillong court on Saturday remanded Sonam Raghuvanshi and Raj Kushwaha, accused of the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case, to 13 days judicial custody. Both of them were presented before the District Session court in East Khasi Hills in Meghalaya today in connection with the murder case.

According to Assistant Public Prosecutor Tushar Chand, police did not ask for the custody of Sonam Raghuvanshi and Raj Kushwaha, but the the Investigating Officer pleaded for the judicial custody, which the court granted.

Raja Raghuvanshi and his wife Sonam went missing while honeymooning in Meghalaya's Sohra area on May 23. While Raja's decomposed body was found in a gorge on June 2, Sonam remained untraceable.

Following this police arrested Raj Kushwaha and the three hitmen—Akash Rajput (19), Vishal Singh Chauhan (22), and Raj Singh Kushwaha (21)—from various parts of UP and Madhya Pradesh. Subsequently, Sonam surrendered before the police in connection with the murder of her husband.

On June 11, the court of Judicial Magistrate Don Kitbor Koshy Mihsill had granted eight days' police custody to the five accused, who were then brought to Meghalaya on transit remands.

A Shillong court on Thursday extended the police custody of Sonam Raghuvanshi and her alleged boyfriend Raj Kushwaha by two more days. The three hitman who allegedly killed Raja were sent to a 14-day judicial remand.

Meanwhile, Raja's elder brother has alleged that Sonam is misleading the police and should be brought to Indore along with the four other accused for a thorough investigation to uncover the "complete truth," PTI reported.
