Rain, Thunderstorms Bring Respite To Delhi NCR As Temperature Drops Below Seasonal Average

Earlier, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms on Wednesday.

Several areas in Delhi experienced heavy winds accompanied by rain on Wednesday evening, bringing the temperatures down. The city marked a maximum temperature of 36.5 degrees Celsius, 2.8 degrees below the average temperature of the season. 

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the minimum temperature was recorded at 24.8 degrees Celsius, 0.3 degrees below normal. Along with Delhi, rain also lashed parts of Noida, Uttar Pradesh. In the southern part of India, the Theni district of Tamil Nadu also experienced heavy winds accompanied by rain on Wednesday.

Earlier, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms on Wednesday. The relative humidity stood at 69 per cent at 8:30 am and dropped to 47 per cent by 5:30 pm, according to a report by PTI.

As per IMD forecasts, Thursday's maximum temperature is expected to reach 37 degrees Celsius, while the minimum is likely to remain around 25 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, IMD also predicted the severe thunderstorms, lightning, Squally winds (50- 60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph)/hail and moderate to intense spell(s) of rainfall covering Gujarat, North Konkan, North Punjab, west Uttar Pradesh, North coastal Andhra Pradesh, southwest Bihar and it will likely to continue during next 3 hours. 

Air Quality Deteriorated To ‘Moderate’ Category

Meanwhile, the city’s air quality deteriorated to the ‘moderate’ category on Wednesday, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 153 at 4 pm, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

The CPCB classifies AQI levels from 101 to 200 as ‘moderate’, with 0–50 being ‘good’ and 401–500 as ‘severe’.
