Weather Update: North India Braces For More Heat; Delhi, Rajasthan Face Severe Heat
A gradual increase of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in maximum temperatures across states including Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh.
Large parts of north and northwest India are bracing for a rise in temperatures over the next few days, with heatwave conditions likely in several regions, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Wednesday. A gradual increase of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in maximum temperatures across states including Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh.
In Delhi, the minimum temperature was recorded at 23.3 degrees Celsius, around 2.1 degrees below the seasonal average. The weather agency said that the morning humidity in Delhi was 58 per cent, with strong surface winds expected during the day. The maximum temperature may touch 40°C, while the AQI stood at 126 at 9 am, falling in the 'moderate' category, according to the CPCB.
In Rajasthan, a fresh heatwave is likely from Thursday, particularly in the Jodhpur and Bikaner regions, with dusty winds of 30–40 km/h. Temperatures in Bikaner and Sriganganagar may reach 44–45°C till Saturday. While eastern Rajasthan will remain mostly dry, parts of Bikaner, Jaipur, Bharatpur, Udaipur, and Kota may see light rain and thunderstorms on Wednesday.
In Northeast India, fairly widespread rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching 30–50 km/h is expected. Isolated areas in Meghalaya may experience extremely heavy rainfall on May 14, according to the IMD.
The same is to be expected in the Western region of India majorly over Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Gujrat from a time frame of 14th-18th May. Isolated heavy rainfall likely over Madhya Maharashtra on 15th May.
As for the South Peninsular India, hailstorm is likely in the isolated places over Telangana on 14th May. In the East and Central region, isolated heavy rainfall is expected over Andaman & Nicobar islands on 14th and 15th May, Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during 15th-17th May and isolated very heavy rainfall on Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim on 14th May.
