A video from Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district has surfaced on social media, showing a group of men allegedly assaulting and misbehaving with a Muslim woman in public. The woman was reportedly with a Hindu man at the time of the incident, which appears to have provoked the attackers.
The incident occurred when Farheen, 20, and a man named Sachin were heading to pick up a loan installment in a little lane in the Khalapar neighborhood. At her mother's request, Sachin rode along on a motorcycle with Farheen, who works for Utkarsh Small Finance Limited and lives in Khalapar, as per India Today's report.
A gang of eight to ten males allegedly harassed and physically assaulted them while they were traveling. After a bystander captured the entire incident on camera with a cell phone, it went viral on social media and immediately caught the public's and authorities' attention.
The video shows a group of men surrounding them and assaulting the woman. In the video, some men are seen pulling the woman’s burqa and tugging at her braid. Despite her attempts to free herself, the harassment continued.

Muzaffarnagar Police responded after the video went viral. Acting on the directions of the Superintendent of Police, four individuals were arrested, and questioning is currently underway. Efforts to identify and apprehend the remaining accused are ongoing. The police have stated clearly that no one will be allowed to take the law into their own hands.
Accused Booked After Muzaffarnagar Police Establish Contact With Victim
In a statement, the police said that contact had been established with the victim to ensure her safety and that legal proceedings were in progress. A case has been registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including those related to molestation, intimidation, verbal abuse, and caste-based slurs.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage on social media, with several people condemning the act as a violation of privacy and an expression of communal hatred. Many have demanded the strictest possible punishment for the culprits to prevent such incidents in the future.
Authorities have appealed to the public not to circulate the video further, warning that doing so could infringe upon the victim’s privacy. The police assured that all necessary steps are being taken to maintain law and order. Given Muzaffarnagar’s history of communal tensions, the administration is treating the matter with seriousness and has pledged swift and strict action against the accused.
