Maharashtra reported 86 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, Karnataka registered 40 new COVID-19 cases, and four additional COVID-19 cases have been reported in Bihar.

Maharashtra recorded 86 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, pushing the active patient count of the state to 383. Since January, Maharashtra has reported 383 COVID-19 cases in total. The month-wise distribution is: January (1 case), February (1), March (0), April (4), and a significant surge in May with 242 cases, representing 80 per cent of the state's total cases for the year.

Similarly, Karnataka registered 40 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, bringing the active number of cases to 126, the health department said, news agency PTI reported.

To assess preparedness, the Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao visited the KC General Hospital in Malleswaram earlier in the day. "I personally verified the availability and quality of oxygen cylinders, emergency ICU beds, ventilators, masks, and other Covid-related equipment," Rao said. He also added that a dedicated Covid-19 helpline will soon be launched for public assistance.

The West Bengal health department also confirmed five more COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, bringing the total number to 16.

The official added that three of them are recovering at home, while the rest have been hospitalised. "Most of them have mild symptoms," the official further said.

4 New Cases Reported In Bihar

In addition, four additional COVID-19 cases have been reported in Patna, bringing the total number of active infections in the city to 10, an official confirmed on Wednesday.

Patna District Magistrate Chandrashekhar Singh stated that all the patients are experiencing only mild symptoms and are under close observation, with all protocols being strictly followed.

"Now, the total number of persons suffering from coronavirus infection in Patna is 10," he told PTI. "We are urging citizens to stay alert but not be alarmed as the health system is fully equipped to handle the situation," he added.

He added that government hospitals in the city have been instructed to stay alert and ensure the availability of essential resources such as beds, oxygen, medications, and vaccines.

Meanwhile, COVID-19 cases have been gradually increasing nationwide in recent weeks, though the majority of infections involve mild symptoms and are being managed at home.
