'I Quit': Law Student Dies By Suicide In UP's Jhansi, Family Alleges Harassment By Boyfriend
The woman's family has alleged that she was called to her boyfriend's home where she was locked in a room and assaulted by his family. She died by suicide the same day.

A 23-year-old law student died by suicide in Uttar Pradesh's Jhansi, leaving behind a message written in lipstick on her mirror that read, "I QUIT". Her family has alleged that she died after being harassed by her boyfriend and his family. An investigation into the matter is underway.
The woman, a resident of Imamwada, Gadhia Phatak in Jhansi, was found hanging in her room on the morning of April 9. The incident occurred shortly after she returned from the house of a local dental doctor with whom she was reportedly in a relationship. The woman's family has accused the doctor, Asad, and his relatives of mentally harassing her, alleging that the pressure led her to take the extreme step, India Today reported.
According to her family, she had met the dental practitioner around four to five months ago during treatment. They had been in a relationship, which reportedly developed into a commitment to marry. However, the family alleged that Asad got engaged to someone else recently, leading to growing tensions between the two.
Woman's Family Allege Harassment By Boyfriend As Reason Behind Suicide
The law student's mother said that Asad called her daughter to his house that morning and his entire family was present there. She alleged that they locked the victim in a room, took away her mobile phone and vehicle keys, and even assaulted her, the report said.
"Later, they called her father and grandfather as well. When they met her, she was crying uncontrollably. He had promised to marry her, but instead got engaged elsewhere. This wasn't the first time-he has ruined the lives of other girls too," she added.
The mother further claimed that another woman had caused a scene at Asad's engagement venue over similar reason. "He misled my daughter under the pretence of treatment. The moment she returned home from his place, she went into her room and killed herself. She wrote 'I QUIT' on the mirror before dying."
On being called by the man's family, the woman's grandfather said that there were several people, including women, at the clinic when they were called for a meeting.
He said they didn't realise what was happening and why Asad's family had surrounded her at the clinic. "The next morning, when we entered her room, she was hanging. It was a complete shock," he said.
Police were informed of the incident by a neighbour, following which officers from Premnagar police station arrived at the spot, took down the body, and sent it for postmortem.
Circle Officer Sadar, Laxmikant Gautam, said, "On April 9, we received information from a local resident that a girl in his neighbourhood had died by suicide. Our team reached the spot immediately and initiated necessary proceedings."
The body has been sent for postmortem and further investigation into the matter is underway.
