Gold Silver Rate Today: Gold and silver prices declined on Tuesday, coming under pressure amid elevated geopolitical tensions between the US and Iran and a sharp rise in crude oil prices, which moved past the $110 mark.
On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), gold futures for June 5 delivery slipped, hitting an intraday low of Rs 1,50,450 per 10 grams, down Rs 1,271 or 0.83 per cent. The metal touched a high of Rs 1,51,802 during the session before easing. At the last count, gold was trading at Rs 1,50,600, lower by Rs 1,121 or 0.74 per cent.
Silver prices saw steeper losses. MCX May 5 futures fell to an intraday low of Rs 2,36,600 per kg, down Rs 5,224 or 2.16 per cent. The session high stood at Rs 2,41,250. Silver was last quoted at Rs 2,37,600, down Rs 4,224 or 1.75 per cent.
Market experts said near-term sentiment in precious metals remains cautious amid volatility and geopolitical uncertainty. Gold is facing resistance around Rs 1,52,000, with a move above this level required to regain momentum, while a fall below Rs 1,51,000 could trigger further profit booking.
For silver, prices continue to hover near Rs 2,40,000, reflecting weak buying interest. A sustained move above Rs 2,42,000-Rs 2,44,000 could support a recovery, while a breach below Rs 2,40,000 may intensify downside pressure.
In global markets, bullion also traded lower. COMEX gold declined 0.27 per cent to $4,680 per ounce, while silver fell 0.73 per cent to $74.48 per ounce.
Despite the current dip, gold has gained over 40 per cent in dollar terms over the past year, while silver has surged 125 per cent.
Geopolitical tensions remained elevated as negotiations between the US and Iran showed signs of strain. While Iran proposed reopening the Strait of Hormuz and initiating nuclear talks following the removal of US maritime restrictions, Washington is reportedly seeking a broader resolution, keeping uncertainty high.
Meanwhile, crude oil prices climbed towards their 52-week highs. Brent crude rose to an intraday high of $111.31 per barrel, up around 3 per cent, while US WTI crude gained 2.53 per cent to $98.81, adding to pressure on bullion markets.
