CNG Price Increased In Delhi For Third Time In 10 Days After Petrol, Diesel Rate Hikes

The increase follows earlier hikes on May 15 and May 18. Petrol and diesel prices were also raised again on Saturday, taking total fuel price increases to nearly Rs 5 per litre in 10 days.

Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) prices have been increased again in Delhi-NCR, marking the third hike in just 10 days as fuel costs continue to rise across the country amid ongoing tensions in West Asia.

Following the latest revision, CNG in Delhi will now cost Rs 81.09 per kg after a Re 1 increase. In Noida and Ghaziabad, the revised price has reached Rs 89.70 per kg.

The latest hike comes after the government raised CNG prices by Rs 2 on May 15 and again by Re 1 on May 18. State-owned oil companies have been steadily passing on the burden of elevated energy costs linked to the continuing Middle East crisis.

Revised CNG Prices Across Major Cities

The fresh revision has pushed up CNG prices across several cities in north India.

Updated CNG Rates

  • Delhi: Rs 81.09 per kg
  • Noida: Rs 89.70 per kg
  • Ghaziabad: Rs 89.70 per kg
  • Gurugram: Rs 86.12 per kg
  • Greater Noida: Rs 89.70 per kg
  • Ajmer: Rs 90.44 per kg

The repeated increases are likely to put additional pressure on household budgets and daily commuters who rely heavily on CNG-powered transport services.

Public Transport and Inflation Concerns Rise

The latest rise in CNG prices is expected to directly impact public transportation costs and could further contribute to retail inflation.

A significant portion of buses, taxis and auto-rickshaws in Delhi-NCR now operate on CNG. Transport operators are expected to pass on at least part of the increased fuel burden to passengers, potentially leading to higher fares in the coming days.

The repeated hikes have also raised concerns among commuters already grappling with rising costs of essential goods and services.

Petrol and Diesel Prices Also Raised

The increase in CNG rates comes alongside another round of hikes in petrol and diesel prices across India on Saturday.

Petrol prices were increased by 87 paise per litre, while diesel became costlier by 91 paise per litre. This marks the third rise in retail fuel prices within 10 days.

In Delhi, petrol prices climbed from Rs 98.64 to Rs 99.51 per litre. Diesel prices rose from Rs 91.58 to Rs 92.49 per litre.

Fuel prices had already been increased by Rs 3 per litre on May 15, followed by another 90 paise hike on May 19. Overall, petrol and diesel prices have risen by nearly Rs 5 per litre during this period.

Crude Oil Prices Show Signs of Easing

Even as domestic fuel prices continue to rise, global crude oil markets showed some signs of relief this week.

Brent crude prices fell by more than 6 per cent amid hopes of a possible agreement between Iran and the United States, easing concerns over disruptions in global oil supplies.

However, despite the decline in crude prices, consumers in India continue to face higher fuel costs as oil companies adjust retail rates to offset recent increases in energy expenses.
