New Delhi: Eminent scientist Atul Dinkar Rane has been appointed as the new chief executive officer (CEO) and managing director (MD) of the BrahMos Aerospace Limited that manufactures the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile.


According to a tweet in ANI, the joint management board of India and Russia has approved the appointment of Atul Dinkar Rane as the CEO and CMD of BrahMos Aerospace Limited. Senior DRDO Scientist Dr Sanjeev Kumar Joshi appointed as the deputy CEO, BrahMos officials said.






Rane is renowned for his decades of sustained R&D contributions in the indigenous design and development of mission critical Onboard Computers (OBC), hardware in loop simulation studies, systems analysis, development of mission software and avionics technologies for defence applications. He has significantly contributed to the missile programmes and was a core member during the foundation of the Brhamos Aerospace.


According to the release, Rane is a graduate from College of Engineering, Guindy, Chennai. He did his postgraduation in guided missiles from the University of Poona and joined the DRDO in 1987 and has worked in various capacities in the Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) and Research Centre Imarat (RCI).


Rane’s pioneering contributions and techno-managerial leadership has been transformative for the successful development and induction of BrahMos Supersonic Cruise Missile into Armed Forces.


Later as part of onboard computers division, Research Centre Imarat (RCI), he led the development of Onboard Mission Software for Agni-I missile and also established a unique integrated testbed facility for seamless test and evaluation of Onboard Systems for various missile projects.


He was one of the core team members of BrahMos Aerospace right from its foundation as a Joint Venture with Russia.


Rane has been conferred with the prestigious DRDO Path Breaking Research/ Outstanding Technology Development Award and DRDO Performance Excellence Award. He is also an active member of many professional societies, including Aeronautical Society of India, Systems Society of India, Society of Aerospace Quality and Reliability & Computer Society of India. Rane has several national/international publications and technical reports to his credit.
