Forget Old Colours As Carmakers Are Experimenting Like Volkswagen Virtus Anniversary Edition

While colours like white and silver continue to reign supreme, the Indian car buyer is also slowly changing with a taste for newer colours. That has meant carmakers can bring more interesting options.

Similarly, Volkswagen has introduced the Virtus Anniversary Edition.

Based on the GT Plus Sport, the Anniversary Edition of the Virtus debuts a new colour called Avocado Pearl, which is priced at Rs 19,19,900.

Sportier Styling, More Features

Further, the Virtus Anniversary Edition also gets a black roof and black alloy wheels, which add contrast, while there are also darkened headlamps plus taillamps with a smoked effect.

The interior, meanwhile, has a gloss black theme with a sporty all-black look plus inserts added in.

Importantly, this edition also gets accessories like puddle lamps, a 360-degree camera system and front parking sensors, which are useful features.

This special edition is based on the top-spec Virtus model and gets all of the features which are already present there.

The Anniversary Edition packs in a 1.5 TSI engine, which is the staple top-end turbo petrol unit producing 150bhp and 250Nm, with a standard seven-speed DSG automatic dual-clutch gearbox.

Indian Buyers Embracing New Colours

The new colour on the Virtus is quite unique but again shows the changes now with carmakers willing to experiment with new shades as demand is growing for them.

While some of the usual colours are popular, new shades are emerging as a choice for many, while carmakers are trying out different approaches to this too.

There was a time when colour options were limited for car buyers in India and most cars were white, but with a changing Indian car market, the buyer now has an appetite for new and different shades which stand out more.

Tata Motors has refreshed the Nexon lineup with the launch of the limited-edition Camo variant, introducing new styling elements and feature upgrades as competition intensifies in the subcompact SUV segment.

Priced from Rs 9.99 lakh, the Nexon Camo is available in five variants and brings exclusive exterior colours, updated cabin technology and Camo-specific badging while retaining the SUV's existing engine and transmission options.

The launch comes as automakers continue to strengthen their offerings in one of India's most competitive passenger vehicle segments.

What's New in the Tata Nexon Camo?

The biggest updates are inside the cabin, where Tata has equipped the Nexon Camo with a new 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

The larger display is integrated into the dashboard design and offers a more premium look while improving the in-car experience. The SUV also receives an integrated dashcam that works alongside the 360-degree camera system.

On the outside, the Camo edition is offered in Sierra-inspired shades, including Munnar Mist and Coorg Cloud, along with exclusive Camo badging that distinguishes it from the standard model.

Features and Variants

The Nexon Camo continues to offer a comprehensive equipment list that includes a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera with a blind-view monitor and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

The limited-edition model is available across five trims, giving buyers multiple options depending on their preferred feature set.

While the overall design remains largely unchanged, the upgraded infotainment screen and integrated dashcam are among the most notable additions.

Engine Options And Pricing

Mechanically, the Nexon Camo remains unchanged and continues to be offered with petrol, diesel and CNG powertrains.

Buyers can also choose from the range of gearbox options already available with the standard Nexon.

Prices for the limited-edition SUV start at Rs 9.99 lakh and go up to Rs 13.9 lakh. With its added features and competitive pricing, the Nexon Camo strengthens Tata's position in the subcompact SUV segment as new rivals continue to enter the market.

Mini Countryman C Review: The Luxury SUV That Delivers More For Less?

Mini was always supposed to be a niche brand but the Countryman C isn't that as with local assembly, it is aiming for higher volumes in the luxury SUV space. The Countryman C is Rs 47.5 lakh ex-showroom and comes with the same 1.5l turbo petrol available on the X1.

Being more affordable does not mean lesser features as the Countryman C is well equipped with a panoramic sunroof, Harman Kardon audio system, powered front seats with massage, wireless charging, some ADAS features and more.

Cabin Experience and Practicality

The interior has a funky vibe which we like including a textile material used for the cabin and the round OLED display of course along with the toggle switches. The modes are clubbed together under experiences and there is a cheer when you select Go Kart mode!

Aside from this, the Countryman C is surprisingly roommy for a Mini especially the rear seat which is ample for tall passengers.

Performance and Driving Impressions

The engine is quiet and smooth with 156bhp and a 7 speed dual clutch automatic. The car is easy to drive in the city and there are no jerks at all.

The engine is quiet and power delivery is linear if not having the same explosive power delivery which you expect with a Mini. Drive it quick and the engine responds but again power delivery is flat mostly and best for cruising.

The steering has good weight though and the handling is crisp, light and has less roll than other SUVs. The ride quality on the other hand is firm at low speeds especially.

Verdict

The Countryman C is extremely well priced for its more exotic looks over other SUVs and the interior plus it's funky vibe. It's a luxury SUV for those who need to stand out but won't compromise on the basics.

Mahindra Scorpio N Facelift Launched With Panoramic Sunroof, Bigger Touchscreen

Mahindra has launched a new Scorpio N facelift with more features which were needed. The new Scorpio N update now gets a larger 12.3 inch HD touchscreen and a digital instrument cluster while elsewhere it gets new features like an electric parking brake, panoramic sunroof and a 540 degree camera with a blind view monitor.

The new 26.03 cm HD Digital Cluster also comes with a full screen navigation and three display layouts – normal, information and minimal.

65W USB Type-C fast-charging port are also there in front row while now you get Adventure Statistics which provide vehicle information such as Engine Performance, Roll and Pitch, Compass and Altimeter, G-Force etc.

Features and Design

Design wise, the Scorpio N maintains its design and Mahindra has not messed with the look while it does get 18 inch wheels.

Other features include Level 2 ADAS, 12-Speaker SONY Audio System, Ventilated Seats, Auto-dimming IRVM, a 6-way Powered driver seat with Leather upholstery etc.

Price, Variants and Powertrain

The Scorpio N is launched at Rs 13.6 lakh to Rs 25.4 lakh. The variants are Z2, Z4, Z6, Z8, Z8S, Z8T plus L with the ADAS available in 6 and 7 seaters.

Elsewhere the engine lineup is the same the same powertrains available earlier.

The update has been focussed on the features which was needed on the Scorpio N and now it gets a lot more. The Scorpio N update closes the gap between the XUV 7XO and some of the other SUVs.

The Scorpio N remains one of the best selling SUVs within the Mahindra range and this is the biggest update of the car yet.

Mahindra XUV 7XO Rival Incoming: MG Hector Hawk Plug-In Hybrid Debuts Soon

MG will launch its new Hector Hawk plug in hybrid on the 28th of August. The Hector Hawk might have a similar name to the current Hector but is a flagship product placed above it.

The new Hector Hawk will come in EV and plug in hybrid form. The Hector Hawk will also be the first new car to be based on the new architecture which MG recently showed.

Powertrain and Range

The new Hector Hawk will be both an EV and a plug in hybrid where the petrol engine is specially tuned for fuel efficiency.

The Hector Hawk plug in hybrid powertrain will be of interest the most where it has a 1.5 litre engine and a 20.5kWh battery pack and an electric motor, which together generate 195hp and 230Nm.

Importantly, the car has an all-electric range of 125km which means unlike conventional hybrid cars, the Hector Hawk plug in hybrid has more electric range which is the biggest advantage with PHEV cars. You will also need to charge it unlike strong hybrid conventional cars.

The Hector Hawk EV will also get a 69.2kWh battery pack along with a 201hp, 310Nm front-mounted electric motor. Meanwhile the range comes with a claimed figure of 530km.

Features and Competition

The Hector Hawk will come with all of the usual features too including a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, 360 degree camera, powered tailgate and more.

The launch will mean the first compact SUV to have a plug in hybrid powertrain. Expect more details to trickle in regarding the Hector Hawk soon leading upto the launch on 28th August.

The main competition for the Hector Hawk is of course the Mahindra XUV 7XO which is one of the best selling SUVs in its class.

Hyundai Bayon SUV Confirmed: New Victoris-Rivalling CNG SUV To Boost Market Share

Hyundai will launch its new SUV that will be placed below the Creta and it will be called the Bayon. The Bayon would be a rival to the Maruti Suzuki Victoris while coming with a CNG powertrain most probably along with a petrol engine.

The Bayon would be bigger than the Venue but smaller than the Creta or roughly the same size. The new Bayon will also plug a gap in the Hyundai range where more SUVs are needed with rising customer demand.

The Bayon unlike the Creta won't be available with a diesel most probably while it could come with either a petrol powertrain plus a CNG version. Above 4m, the Bayon will have a sleek look and will get the latest infotainment system as seen on the Hyundai Venue new generation too.

Positioning, Features and Launch Timeline

The Venue is the latest Hyundai and the Bayon will get the same new style key plus the latest updates. The Bayon will increase the SUV market share and will increase sales for Hyundai as a whole with the compact 4m plus segment seeing more growth.

The Bayon will form a crucial link between the Creta and the Venue. The Bayon will be launched towards the festive season and will be one of the big launches this year ahead of the launch for its sub 4m EV which is also developed for India.

With a CVT automatic for the petrol and the CNG which would be expected to get an underbody design, the Bayon could turn out to be a hit being aimed at the growing CNG compact SUV market share.

Expect the new Bayon to come soon and give buyers in this space another option while being a very important launch for Hyundai.

Why Maruti Suzuki Victoris Is Our 2026 Car Of The Year

In 2026, a new car can't be merely good and similarly you can't just have a single powertrain. With changing buyer mindset and preferences, multiple options covering greener alternatives to conventional petrol cars are the need of the hour. Hence, the Maruti Suzuki Victoris is the only one in its class to offer a CNG powertrain as well as a strong hybrid option.

These greener alternatives to conventional options give the buyers a choice and that's important in today's cut throat competition.

The Victoris isn't without rivals and has a long list of them but it's varied powertrain mix, breadth of abilities and it's 'fit for purpose' demeanor impressed judges including me to clinch the top prize at the 2026 ABP Live Auto Awards.

Launched last year, the Victoris is now amongst the best selling cars in its class and the CNG version especially has 50 percent bookings with its underbody arrangement further saving boot space.

Volkswagen Golf GTI, Audi RSQ8, MG Cyberster Win Top Performance Honours At ABP Live Auto Awards 2026

There are no dearth of performance cars for the Indian auto enthusiast but only a few stand out. At the ABP Live Auto Awards, there were three such cars that walked away with the performance car laurels.

The sudden influx of performance cars is seen with the changing Indian car buyer and a taste for luxury mixed with performance. This trend has meant that carmakers are now bringing in more niche cars from their portfolio while also selling them quicker than anticipated.

Golf GTI Takes Top Honours

The Golf GTI from Volkswagen is our Performance Car of the Year and it impressed all of our judges including me with its keen handling and sharp focus. The Golf GTI has sold out but we will get another set of cars this year too.

Audi RSQ8 Sets the SUV Benchmark

The big Audi RSQ8 also wowed us all with its thunderous performance but also being laced with a crisp handling balance which is shocking for a vehicle of this size. The RSQ8 is our Performance SUV being the new benchmark in this class.

Cyberster Leads the EV Performance Charge

Lastly we did not forget EVs but within the performance spectrum they are even more desirable than ever with scintillating performance yet without the cost involved in terms of being an EV.

The rakish Cyberster impressed judges including me for its performance, value and how it translates EV performance into a genuine sports car experience.

Going forward it seems the Indian auto enthusiast is in for an interesting time ahead with more such cars coming in and expanding the performance car genre while growing from being just a niche to a substantial part of the luxury segment.

Facelift Suzuki XL7 Could Mean Maruti XL6 Update Coming Soon

Suzuki has unveiled the updated XL7 in Indonesia, and the model could offer a strong indication of what Indian buyers can expect from the next-generation Maruti Suzuki XL6. While the XL7 name is used in several international markets, the MPV is sold as the XL6 in India and serves as the more premium, crossover-inspired sibling of the Ertiga.

The latest update focuses primarily on design and features rather than mechanical changes, giving the MPV a more rugged SUV-inspired identity.

Sharper SUV-Inspired Exterior Design

The biggest change on the updated XL7 is at the front. Suzuki has redesigned the fascia with a much bolder and more upright appearance, giving the MPV a stronger road presence.

The front now gets a larger gloss-black grille with a vertical slat design, replacing the existing unit with a more aggressive look. The revised headlamps complement the new grille, while the extensive use of black elements lends the XL7 a tougher and more premium stance. The redesigned grille significantly transforms the appearance of the vehicle, making it look more SUV-like than before.

From the side, the silhouette remains largely unchanged, although the addition of black alloy wheels enhances the sporty contrast and complements the crossover styling. At the rear, the changes are minimal, with only subtle styling revisions to distinguish the facelift from the outgoing model.

Cabin Gets Feature Upgrades

Inside, the overall cabin layout remains familiar, but Suzuki has introduced a few important updates. The interior receives revised trim finishes along with a newer infotainment system, bringing the cabin more in line with the brand's latest offerings.

When the updated XL6 eventually arrives in India, it is expected to feature a larger touchscreen infotainment system along with an improved 360-degree camera display. The all-black interior theme is likely to be retained, preserving the premium appeal that differentiates the XL6 from the Ertiga.

As this is expected to be a mid-life facelift rather than an all-new generation model, passenger space and practicality are unlikely to change.

No Mechanical Changes Expected

Mechanically, the updated model is expected to remain unchanged. The XL6 is likely to continue with the same petrol engine currently on sale, with no major changes expected to the powertrain.

However, Maruti Suzuki could introduce the latest updated CNG version of the XL6, which would broaden its appeal among buyers looking for lower running costs and could further boost sales.

India Launch Likely Next Year

Although Suzuki has introduced the model as the XL7 in Indonesia, the Indian version is expected to continue carrying the XL6 nameplate.

With refreshed styling, additional features and potential equipment upgrades, the updated XL6 is also expected to witness a modest price increase. Based on the latest international reveal, the facelifted XL6 is likely to make its India debut sometime next year.

New Toyota Hilux Review: Raw But Still Civilized

The Hilux isn't your usual car. It's meant for off-roading and a lifestyle accessory for your weekend but it is also a tough vehicle loved globally. The Hilux is a bigger brand and one of the most well-known Toyota models around the world. India finally got the new version and it's still a tough off-roader at heart.

It retains its ladder-frame platform, of course, but there are improvements.

Better Looks, Better Cabin

The new Hilux is quieter, better in ride quality and easier to live with, along with a better interior. It looks fabulous too and has a sharper design now with sleeker headlamps and a tall stance.

It is a massive vehicle though, but looks sleeker while having more road presence. You have to climb inside and it's not easy to get into, but the interior is a huge improvement with better quality materials and big, chunky switchgear.

The larger 12.3-inch touchscreen looks better and gets all of the required features, but the 360-degree camera display could have been better.

Elsewhere, the new Hilux gains more features and technology, along with seven airbags. That said, ventilated seats, ADAS and even climate control are missing. Space at the rear is decent and it works well as a four-seater.

More Refined On The Road

Start the car and there is a familiar diesel rumble from the 2.8-litre engine producing 204bhp and 500Nm. There is no manual option as the Hilux comes only with a six-speed automatic transmission.

Despite not getting an electric power steering, the low-speed heaviness is less and the new Hilux is easier to drive now. It feels less cumbersome and the engine noise at low speeds is reduced too.

It is still loud when pushed hard, but the new Hilux is an improvement with feeling less heavy. It rolls less and feels more controlled. The ride too is less bouncy, though bad roads will still have occupants being tossed around a bit.

Verdict

The new Hilux isn't expensive and the price hasn't risen over the earlier version, while it now looks much better and has a better interior.

However, the cabin is still missing some expected features at this price point. Even so, it's a tough, reliable, go-anywhere workhorse that stands apart from conventional SUVs.

What we like – Looks, off-road ability, improved interior

What we don't like – Missing several features, not easy to drive in the city
